Cigarettes and Alcohol

I recall you- the smell of cigarettes and alcohol.
I never understand your moods at all.
I can always find you standing near.
Your voice softly whispering in my ear.

My heart runs at the sound of your name,
Around you, I will never be tame.
You turn my heart to sounds of joy,
You play with my heart as if some toy.

Your voice rings deeply in my ear,
I can always recall it when you're not near.
I have lost and found you many times,
Each time my heart and soul chimes.
Chimes for the feelings you let me feel.
You are the reason my heart can heal.

You linger on the brink of decay,
All I ever want to do is sway
You from the source of your dismay.
You never truly seem to understand,
what it is that makes you a real man.
You struggle with people's thoughts
Your own self worth rots.

You struggle under the weight of choices,
All you can hear are their voices.
I want to end your suffering,
I can only hope I can do something.
You seem to want to wonder away,
Never to be found until your dieing day.
I worry that you won't ever come up to breath,
I will have to be the one to grieve.

I recall you- the smell of cigarettes and alcohol.
I never seem to understand your moods at all.
I can always find you standing near.
Your voice softly whispering in my ear.

I struggle to find the source of you,
I only want to hold you true
To what makes you, yourself.
Yet, what can I do
but offer you-
myself.
